A personally led continuity practice
How the Practice Operates
One continuity brief. Clear family decisions. Coordinated professional work.
This work may be relevant when capable advisers and important arrangements already exist, but responsibility for connecting ownership, control, liquidity, succession, documentation and implementation remains unclear.
Family-level diagnosis · continuity architecture · professional coordination
The integrating role
Why one continuity brief matters
The difficulty is rarely an absence of advice. It is whether separate advice, documents and family intentions will still work together when circumstances change.
Advice already exists
Each adviser may be addressing a legitimate legal, tax, banking, fiduciary, investment or operating question.
The continuity brief may not
Dependencies, family decisions, sequencing and implementation can remain fragmented across otherwise capable workstreams.
The role is integration
Within an agreed scope, Sandeep can organise relevant facts, decisions and professional questions into one continuity view without determining specialist conclusions.
The initial examination considers what appears sound, what remains uncertain and which connected questions require further examination.
A working method
Diagnose → Architect → Coordinate → Complete
A four-part method can examine connected questions without absorbing specialist responsibilities.
Establish the present position
Separate confirmed facts, family intentions, assumptions, dependencies and incomplete actions.
Convert decisions into design
Align ownership, control, roles, liquidity, documentation and responsibilities around approved intentions.
Clarify the workstreams
With the relevant family or owner direction, identify which decisions and professional questions belong with whom.
Review implementation status and next decisions
Distinguish what appears resolved, deferred or still exposed and identify where further family decision or professional confirmation may be needed.
Responsibility by phase
Owner, output and decision gate
One brief coordinates the work; responsibility stays visible at every stage.
| Phase | Owner and contributors | Written output | Stop / continue gate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diagnose | Sandeep leads; the family confirms facts; specialists confirm discipline-specific points. | Present-position and exposure record. | Stop if scope or material facts are unagreed. Continue when the record is sufficient. |
| Architect | The family decides; Sandeep connects dependencies and sequence. | Approved integrated continuity brief. | Stop while family direction is unresolved. Continue after authorised decisions. |
| Coordinate | Sandeep sequences; appointed professionals advise or execute within their scopes. | Professional workstream register. | Stop until appointments, consent and scope are clear. Continue with authorised instructions. |
| Complete | Sandeep tracks; the family and specialists confirm status and evidence. | Completed, deferred and exposed-action record. | Close only where completion is evidenced; otherwise identify the next decision. |
Practical outcomes
What improves after the engagement
A continuity engagement should leave the family with greater decision clarity, not merely more advice.
After the initial work, the family should be able to see:
- what appears sound or founder-dependent;
- which assumptions and decisions remain unresolved;
- which professional questions belong with whom;
- what should happen first;
- what is completed, deferred or still exposed.
Choose the right first mandate
How an engagement can begin and progress
The work begins with a private relevance conversation. A Family Continuity Diagnostic is the default where connected questions remain unresolved; a focused Continuity Capital Review may be appropriate only where a defined capital or dependable-income obligation is already clear.
Family Continuity Diagnostic
Appropriate where ownership, control, succession, family roles, liquidity and documentation remain connected or uncertain. The agreed diagnostic scope produces written findings on dependencies, unresolved decisions and priorities for the family and its appointed advisers.
Continuity Capital Review
Appropriate only where a defined capital or dependable-income obligation is already clear enough to examine as a focused question.
Architecture and Implementation Governance
Where findings indicate a need for additional work, the family may agree a separate scope:
Written Architecture Review: connect the findings and approved family decisions into a continuity brief, with dependencies and a sequenced action plan.
Implementation Coordination Mandate: organise the appointed advisers’ workstreams, track decision owners and milestones, and record completion evidence and outstanding actions.
Each stage requires an agreed written scope, fee and responsibilities before work begins. Specialist advice and execution remain with the appointed professionals.
Practice standards
Clear scope. Clear roles. Clear record.
Scope before action
A conversation is not an engagement; an engagement does not automatically extend into implementation.
Decisions and evidence remain distinct
The record separates facts, family intentions, assumptions, approvals and verified completion.
Specialists retain responsibility
Legal, tax, fiduciary, banking, valuation, investment, insurance and other conclusions remain with appointed professionals.
Information and regulated work stay governed
Sensitive information is requested with restraint; separately remunerated or regulated activity is disclosed and governed separately.
The objective is a reliable record of what is known, decided, uncertain, assigned and still incomplete.
The Diagnostic is the default when connected questions remain unresolved; the focused Capital Review is for an already-clear capital or dependable-income obligation.
A private starting point
Does the family need one continuity brief?
A private conversation can establish whether a structured mandate is relevant and which first step fits.
