    Establishing relevance

    When a conversation may help

    The family need not be facing an immediate succession event.

    A conversation may be relevant when

    • authority, information or access remains concentrated with the founder;
    • usable liquidity, ownership benefit or operating responsibility has not been tested through transition;
    • family intentions, documents and professional workstreams may not point the same way;
    • a transfer, restructuring, settlement, retirement or other material family decision is approaching.

    Information discipline

    What Not to Send Initially

    Do not submit identity documents, account-access information, financial or tax records, bank or investment statements, wills, trusts, contracts or detailed allegations about family disputes.

    A short description of the broad situation is sufficient. If more is required, the purpose and secure sharing method will be agreed separately.

    Professional boundaries

    For Professional Introducers

    A Chartered Accountant, lawyer, banker, trustee, investment professional or other trusted adviser may first discuss the broad circumstances without identifying the family.
