A private first conversation

Request a Private Continuity Conversation

A private first conversation to determine whether a structured continuity review is relevant.

Families often know something requires attention before they can define the complete problem. The first conversation is used to understand the broad situation, test whether the practice is relevant and identify an appropriate next step.

Share only enough context for that assessment; sensitive documents are not required.

    Establishing relevance

    A Conversation May Be Relevant When

    The family need not be facing an immediate succession event. The conversation may also be relevant before a business transfer, ownership restructuring, trust settlement, retirement decision or reduction in the founder’s day-to-day involvement.

    • too much authority, information or access remains with the founder;
    • family wealth is substantial but usable liquidity has not been tested;
    • ownership benefit and operating responsibility are not aligned;
    • Wills, nominations, trusts, company records or family intentions may not point the same way;
    • several advisers are involved, but no single continuity view exists;
    • a transition, business sale, restructuring, borrowing, trust settlement or family decision is approaching.

    The first conversation

    What the First Conversation Covers

    The discussion is intended to understand:

    The broad family and business context
    The main continuity concern or question
    Why the matter has become relevant now
    Which professionals are already involved
    Whether a structured review may be appropriate

    Depending on the situation, the appropriate starting point may be:

    • The Family Continuity Diagnostic as the default where connected questions remain unresolved
    • A focused Continuity Capital Review only where a defined capital or dependable-income obligation is already clear
    • No immediate engagement

    The initial conversation does not presume that an engagement will follow.

    Information discipline

    What Not to Send Initially

    Do not submit identity documents, account-access information, financial or tax records, bank or investment statements, wills, trusts, contracts or detailed allegations about family disputes.

    A short description of the broad situation is sufficient. If more is required, the purpose and secure sharing method will be agreed separately.

    Professional boundaries

    For Professional Introducers

    A Chartered Accountant, lawyer, banker, trustee, investment professional or other trusted adviser may first discuss the broad circumstances without identifying the family.

    Existing clients may also contact the practice through their established communication channel.

    After the request

    What Happens Next

    01

    The request is reviewed.

    The request is reviewed to determine whether the situation falls within the practice’s scope and whether a preliminary conversation would be useful.

    02

    A preliminary conversation is arranged where appropriate.

    The purpose is to understand the broad concern and determine the most suitable starting point.

    03

    Any engagement is separately defined.

    Before work begins, the family receives clarity on:

    • Scope
    • Professional fee
    • Expected timeline
    • Information requirements
    • Written outputs
    • Professional responsibilities

    No wider implementation, instrument, provider or change of adviser is presumed.

    Information submitted through this page is used to review and respond to the request. Formal confidentiality, information-sharing and engagement terms are established separately where an engagement proceeds.
