Request a Private Continuity Conversation

A private first conversation to determine whether a structured continuity review is relevant

Families often recognise that something requires attention before they can define the complete problem.

The concern may involve founder dependence, ownership, authority, liquidity, succession, documentation or the coordination of existing professionals.

The first conversation is intended to understand the broad situation, establish whether the practice is relevant and identify the most appropriate next step.

Please share only enough information to describe the broad circumstances. Sensitive family, financial or legal documents are not required at this stage.

When a Conversation May Be Appropriate

A private conversation may be useful when:

  • Important authority, information or financial access remains concentrated with the founder
  • Ownership, responsibility and family expectations are not aligned
  • A spouse or next-generation family member is uncertain about the existing arrangements
  • Liquidity may not be available when family or business obligations arise
  • Several advisers, entities or documents exist, but no integrated continuity view is available

The family need not be facing an immediate succession event.

The conversation may also be relevant before a business transfer, ownership restructuring, trust settlement, retirement decision, major borrowing arrangement or reduction in the founder’s day-to-day involvement.

What the First Conversation Covers

The discussion is intended to understand:

  • The broad family and business context
  • The main continuity concern or question
  • Why the matter has become relevant now
  • Which professionals are already involved
  • Whether a structured review may be appropriate

Depending on the situation, the appropriate starting point may be:

  • A focused Continuity Capital Review where the capital requirement is clear
  • The wider Family Continuity Diagnostic where connected questions remain unresolved
  • No immediate engagement

The initial conversation does not presume that an engagement will follow.

Fields marked required must be completed.

    • Detailed allegations concerning family disputes
    • Information that is unnecessary for the preliminary discussion

A short description of the broad situation is sufficient at this stage.

Please avoid including unnecessary personal information about other family members.

Where further information is required, the purpose, scope and method of sharing it will be clarified separately.

    What Happens Next

    1. The request is reviewed.

The request is reviewed to determine whether the situation falls within the practice’s scope and whether a preliminary conversation would be useful.

    2. A preliminary conversation is arranged where appropriate.

The purpose is to understand the broad concern and determine the most suitable starting point.

    3. Any engagement is separately defined.

Before work begins, the family receives clarity on:

    • Scope
    • Professional fee
    • Expected timeline
    • Information requirements
    • Written outputs
    • Professional responsibilities

No wider implementation, instrument, provider or change of adviser is presumed.
